Wajir is a remote and rugged part of Northern Kenya 🇰🇪, close to the borders with Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and Somalia 🇸🇴. Roughly 680 km from Nairobi and well off the usual tourist routes, reaching Wajir is an 11-hour journey across harsh, semi-desert terrain - a landscape that shapes both the lifestyle and the remarkable resilience of the people who call this region home. The first photo captures traditional shelter built from branches, fabric, and resourceful everyday materials; a reflection of how communities here adapt to the environment using creativity, skill, and knowledge of the land. Nothing quite says “Karibu Kenya” like being greeted by one of Crescent Island’s most charming residents. This giraffe leaned in with the perfect mix of curiosity and confidence, reminding me why Naivasha is one of the most unforgettable wildlife spots in the country. Up close, their gentle expressions, long lashes, and natural elegance make every encounter feel personal, almost as if they’re saying karibu to their world.
